Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 2:00 pm – Popcorn and a Movie! – Get ready to enjoy the big screen and sound system at the library as we will be showing  The Secret Life of Pets, a clever, engaging adventure about what our dogs, cats, birds, and other domesticated creatures get up to when we’re not around!  Bring a comfy pillow and watch the family fun.  This movie is rated PG and recommended for age 6 and up.  Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the film.  Running time is 90 minutes.

Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 10:30 am – Family Science Program with Miss Lynne – All About Arctic Animals – How do the animals of the Arctic cope with the cold temperatures that characterize their environment?  What do they eat?  Learn how these animals are able to survive in their habitat.  This is great family fun with hands-on activities for children age 3 and up. This free event is sponsored by The Mashpee Coordinated Family and Community Engagement Grant. Drop in – no registration is required.

Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 10:30 am – Take Your Child to the Library Day – Children of all ages and their families are invited to join us at the library to celebrate “Take Your Child to the Library Day”.  We’ll have stories, craft activities, guess the number of candy kisses in the jar, a “Selfie Booth” and children’s book trivia with prizes!

Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 10:30 am – Family Story Time – Our Feathered Friends –How many backyard birds of winter can you identify?  Children of all ages and their families are invited to join us for a family story time, “Our Feathered Friends”.  We’ll learn about the species of birds frequently seen on Cape Cod with some fun stories, and then we’ll make a bagel bird feeder to take home!  You can help our feathered friends to survive during the difficult winter season!

February School Vacation Week Events

Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 2:00 pm – Reptiles Rock! – Reptiles Rock is an exciting live reptile show that is both educational and entertaining!  Meet and learn about fascinating and endangered species of the rainforest.  Reptiles Rock includes a mini zoo set-up with 10 to 14 smaller animals such as bugs, frogs, snakes and lizards to look at. Plus, there is a fun and informative presentation by a Rainforest Reptile herpetologist with 4 larger animals including a tortoise, a large monitor lizard, a 10 foot boa constrictor and an alligator!   Join us for this dynamic, hands-on and educational program.  No registration required.  This free event is supported by a grant from the Mashpee Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm – R-Cade Entertainment Event –Come join us for a fun day of interactive game play where shoulder-to-shoulder button smashing chaos is the norm.  Team up or face off against one another in a video game party like none other!  Players can go retro with favorite consoles from yesterday—NES, SNES, and a Sega Genesis—or game on more recent platforms, such as Xbox and PC.   It’s a great chance to try new games or revisit old favorites in a fun, family-friendly atmosphere.   All ages are welcome, and the event is free.   No registration is required.

Friday, February 24, 2017 at 2:00 pm – Popcorn and a Movie! – Get ready to enjoy the big screen and sound system at the library as we will be showing the movie,  Storks.  According to Roger Ebert, this movie is “zippy and zany, cute and cuddly, Storks manages to balance wild humor with winning heart.”  Bring a comfy pillow and watch the family fun.  This movie is rated PG and recommended for age 6 and up.  Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the film.  Running time is 100 minutes.

Weekly Events – Winter Session of Story Times Begins January 4, 2017

Mondays at 10:15 and 11:15 –  Toddle Time with Miss Rosemary –   Simple stories, songs and craft for toddlers age 2 to 4.

Wednesdays at 10:15 am – Tiny Tots with Miss Nancy – A “Play & Learn” drop-in program especially for tiny ones age 15 to 24 months.  You and your tiny tot are invited to join us for stories, movement, songs and playtime.

Wednesdays at 11:30 – Lap Babies with Miss Rosemary – Songs, rhymes and simple stories for you and your “lap” baby up to 15 months.

No story times during school vacation weeks or snow days.

Every Tuesday from 4:30 to 5:30 – LEGO Club  –  Join the LEGO fun!  The library supplies the LEGOs and you supply the creativity!  School age children welcome.  An adult must accompany children under the age of 10.  No registration required.

For Teens and Tweens

Calling all fourth through sixth graders who enjoy reading new books… Join  the Massachusetts Children’s Book Award (MCBA) Book Club at the Mashpee Public Library! Salem State University founded the Massachusetts Children’s Book Award in 1975.  Every year there are 25 nominated titles of recently published books, and children in grades 4 to 6 must read at least 5 titles in order to be eligible to vote for their favorite book.

We will meet once a month on Thursdays from September to March, and our voting Pizza Party will be held in March.  Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 19, 2017 from 4:30 to 5:30.
