Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 6:00 pm – Halloween Safety Magic Show – This SPOOKTACULAR show is for BOYS and GHOULS of all ages!  It’s a Halloween Magic Show  with safety tips blended into the program to help keep children safe on their night of spooky fun!  This magic show has it all… a magic wand that takes on a life of its own, a haunted jack-o-lantern, a floating skull, ghosts, goblins and the magical appearance of Bunnicula the Vampire Bunny – real live bunny!  Halloween fun for all ages!  This FREE event is sponsored by The Friends of the Mashpee Library.

Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 10:00 to 5:00 – Trick or Treat for Books! –  Visit the library in your costume on the Halloween Parade Day and Trick or Treat for Books!  Trick or Treat!  Books are neat!  Books for all ages!  Preschool, School-Age, Tweens and Teens!

Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 10:30 am – Family Science Program with Miss Lynne – All About Bats! – What do you know about bats?  Learn how these fascinating creatures are an important part of their habitat.  This is great family fun with hands-on activities for children age 3 and up. This free event is sponsored by The Mashpee Coordinated Family and Community Engagement Grant. Drop in – no registration is required.

Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 10:30 am – Family Story Time – Pig Out on Picture Books – In honor of Picture Book Month,  Mrs. Burke and her special pig companion will host a family story time to “pig out” on some good picture books.  There will be humorous stories, crafts and many new and notable picture books available for check out!  Join the celebration and party with a picture book at the library!

Monday, November 21, 2016 at 2:00 pm – Popcorn and a Movie on the Half Day of School! – Get ready to enjoy the big screen and sound system at the library as we will be showing Finding Dory, the long-awaited sequel to Pixar’s 2003 classic Finding Nemo.  Bring a comfy pillow and watch the family fun.  This movie is rated PG and recommended for age 6 and up.  Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the film.  Running time is 103 minutes.

Weekly Events

Mondays at 10:15 and 11:15 –  Toddle Time with Miss Rosemary –  Simple stories, songs and craft for toddlers age 2 to 4.

Wednesdays at 11:30 – Lap Babies with Miss Rosemary  – Songs, rhymes and simple stories for you and your “lap” baby up to 15 months.

New!  Beginning November 2 – Wednesdays at 10:15 am – Tiny Tots with Miss Nancy
A “Play & Learn” drop-in program especially for tiny ones age 15 to 24 months.  You and your tiny tot are invited to join us for stories, movement, songs and playtime.  Activities are especially  chosen to promote emergent literacy skills and motor development.  This program is sponsored by the Mashpee Coordinated Family and Community Engagement Grant and  no registration is required.

No story times during school vacation weeks or snow days.

Every Tuesday from 4:30 to 5:30 – LEGO Club  –  Join the LEGO fun!  The library supplies the LEGOs and you supply the creativity!  School age children welcome.  An adult must accompany children under the age of 10.  No registration required.

For Teens and Tweens

Calling all fourth through sixth graders who enjoy reading new books… Join  the Massachusetts Children’s Book Award (MCBA) Book Club at the Mashpee Public Library! Salem State University founded the Massachusetts Children’s Book Award in 1975.  Every year there are 25 nominated titles of recently published books, and children in grades 4 to 6 must read at least 5 titles in order to be eligible to vote for their favorite book.

We will meet once a month on Thursdays from September to March, and our voting Pizza Party will be held in March.  Our first meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 4:30 to 5:30.  On that day we will have all of the nominated titles available for browsing and also the first book for book club will be ready to check out.  Come and join us – there will be cupcakes!
