Kathleen Mahoney Selected as Library Director

The Board of Trustees of the Mashpee Public Library was very pleased to announce the selection of Kathleen Mahoney as its new director. she was sworn in at Town Hall in May.  As part of the interview process, Ms. Mahoney interviewed with the search committee of the Library Board of Trustees, as well as Joyce Mason, the Mashpee Town Manager, and the town’s Directors of Technology and Human Resources. She  assumed her duties June 6, 2011.  She replaces Helene DeFoe, who retired in January.

Mahoney has worked at the Mashpee Library for the past year as both a Reference and Young Adult Services Librarian, and is thrilled to move into the new role as Library Director. “I look forward to working with the Board of Trustees, Mashpee town officials, Friends of the Library, volunteers, and especially the outstanding library staff. We will face challenges in the next months and years, but I’m confident that with our deep commitment, creativity, and continued community support we will continue to successfully connect patrons of all ages to resources and materials for their information, learning, and entertainment needs.”

Active at both the state and national levels, Mahoney has served on, or chaired committees for the Young Adult Library Services Association of the American Libraries Association, the Youth Services Section of the Massachusetts Library Association, and is currently a member of the Board Directors for the Cape Cod and Islands Library Association. Prior to joining the staff of the Mashpee Public Library, she managed the Teen Services programs at the Brewster Ladies’ Library. She earned a Masters degree of Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois and holds a professional certificate of librarianship from the state of Massachusetts.
